KindFame Productions Completes Ambitious Seven-Camera Mockumentary Shoot in Cheam

CHEAM, SUTTON, LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM, September 15, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- KindFame Productions has completed filming on The Offline Action Group, a 28-minute mockumentary short film now moving into post-production.

The film follows a newly formed local action group as it agrees to be filmed while trying to guide the community through a permanent internet outage, slowly revealing that its members are barely one step ahead of everyone else.

The main production day took place in an ordinary church hall in Cheam, rather than a studio or purpose-built production facility. Over a 12-hour shooting day, KindFame Productions coordinated seven cameras filming simultaneously, more than 100 planned shots, approximately 25 crew and more than 30 performers.

Paul Howard, producer and writer of The Offline Action Group and Operations Director at KindFame Productions, said:

“Everyone thought we were probably mad to try to shoot this much in one day, but the team pulled it out of the bag. The achievement was not simply using seven cameras. It was planning and coordinating enough people, equipment and simultaneous coverage to make seven cameras work efficiently in a very ordinary church hall.”

The multi-camera approach was central to the production. With a large ensemble cast, a long script and a tight schedule, conventional one or two-camera filming would have required substantially more time. Seven cameras allowed the production to capture wide shots, medium shots, close-ups and reactions from the same performances, preserving the natural rhythm of the mockumentary style while keeping the shoot moving.

The scale of the shoot also created significant production challenges, including camera positions, sight lines, lighting multiple angles, sound coverage, continuity, monitoring, communication and media management. KindFame’s production structure was designed to manage those pressures while keeping the cast and crew moving through a demanding schedule.

Although The Offline Action Group is a KindFame Productions film, it was assisted by Sutton FilmMakers and forms part of the club’s wider anthology project, a collection of short films exploring what might happen if the internet went down permanently.

The production was also used to give Sutton FilmMakers members practical experience of working on a larger, properly organised film set, including camera operation, sound, lighting, continuity, assistant directing, production support, makeup, wardrobe and on-set communication. Sutton FilmMakers is a not-for-profit filmmaking club based in Sutton.

Howard added:

“Part of involving Sutton FilmMakers was giving members experience of a full-scale set, with all the organisation and discipline that requires. This was not a training exercise where we could simply stop when something went wrong. It was a real production with a real schedule, and everyone had to work together under proper time pressure.”

The production also had to adapt to a major real-world problem on the day when the sound engineer had to leave at around 11am because of a family emergency. Rather than stopping the shoot, retired LWT sound engineer Paul Chaventre and Production Assistant Imogen Tickner stepped up to help keep the sound operation moving.

Howard said:

“That moment really showed why this kind of experience matters. When something unexpected happened, people adapted. Responsibilities changed, the team pulled together and we carried on filming. That is what happens on a real set.”

The film also included a surprise guitar-led moment from Mark Timmis, which had deliberately been kept from the cast so their reactions could be captured naturally during filming.

The Offline Action Group is now in post-production.
